We are so proud to honor these exceptional leaders and artists.

Please join us in congratulating them!

The 2013 Artistic Achievement Award, presented to an individual who has made a significant artistic contribution to the Off-Off-Broadway community.

Richard Foreman: "Always, when creating a work that tries to be art and not just entertainment-- make the aesthetic that includes the greatest risk, which on some level attempts the seemingly 'impossible'. Off-Off-Broadway is the place where that can happen."

The 2013 Ellen Stewart Award, presented to an individual or organization demonstrating a significant contribution to the Off-Off-Broadway community through service, support and leadership.

The Dramatist Guild Fund: "We are so honored to receive this year's Ellen Stewart Award for Stewardship," states Dramatists Guild Fund Executive Director Rachel Routh. "For over 50 years, the Dramatists Guild Fund's mission has been to nurture and support writers at all stages of their careers, and this award puts the spotlight not only on our work but the fundamental truth that the future of theater depends on the endurance of its writers."

The 2013 Caffé Cino Fellowship Award, presented to an Off-Off-Broadway theatre company that consistently produces outstanding work. This award also includes a grant to be used toward an Off-Off-Broadway production.

terraNOVA Collective: "It is an absolute thrill and honor to be receiving the Caffe Cino Award," shares Producing Artistic Director Jennifer Conley Darling. "It is especially pertinent because it comes from our peers. With terraNOVA beginning its 11th season, what better way to celebrate our most advantageous year yet!"

Why It's Time for
Just Right Just Now
by Doug Strassler

As a past IT Award-nominated company Lesser America gears up for its newest production, co-founder Laura Ramadei spoke with the IT Awards about their mission and Just Right Just Now.

NYITA: How exactly did Lesser America form?

LR: Lesser America began a few years ago when the founding members came together to present Keep Your Baggage with You at Theater for the New City. Following that production, we had our eyes on a piece called Squealer, by Jonathan Blitstein, and Theater for the New City had invited us back to work in their space again. We've been in residence with TNC and produced four shows with them since. I think it was a shared aesthetic and taste for a certain kind of theater that brought us together, and it's our friendship and work ethic that keeps us glued. We've since become a veritable family that's constantly growing and acquiring new members.

Spotlight On: Our Update

Our Update
100th Issue

We are celebrating the 2013 nominees and the incredible season, but we have another reason to celebrate...

THIS is the
100th issue
of our Update.

Over the last 8 years, we have brought you some of the most important news and events affecting Off-Off-Broadway, we've spotlighted some of the most amazing theatre artists in the city, we've passed on some timely advice and we've helped keep you informed of our activities. Through this Update, we've had the opportunity to share some incredible community milestones and witness and discuss some of the most formidable challenges that our community faces.

What started as a way of sharing news about our events has grown into a real source of news for our community and we could not be more proud. We now have regular features by some amazing contributors such as Christopher Borg, Katie Rosin and Heather Cohn. And it is all coordinated by our wonderful editor, Doug Strassler.

We have grown from reaching a few thousand people to now reaching nearly 30,000 theatre enthusiast in NYC every month. And it continues to grow....!

We have some new plans and exciting ideas for the Update and our whole online presence that will be undergoing a major facelift in the next few months.

We are so grateful that to be a part of this community and look forward to many more Updates to follow.

If you would like to contribute or have a story idea, email us at info@nyitawards.com.

Network, Network, Network!

Networking with your peers is the most important activity you can do each month.  How about attending the NY IT Awards on September 30th? Not nominated, no problem, come, support your peers, show them that you care -- the payback will be tenfold.  I always love Terry Schreiber's (T.Schreiber Studios) philosophy of not accepting comps to other showcases, he feels "I want people to buy tickets to my shows, so I will buy tickets to theirs."  Try to embody this and support each others hard work.
